Wellfleet’s Preservation Hall to get new solar panels – Cape Cod Times

WELLFLEET — A $40,000 TernSOLAR challenge grant from the Tern Foundation will put solar panels on Wellfleet Preservation Hall.

High-efficiency photovoltaic panels will be installed on the large, south-facing roof. This solar installation will expand the existing solar panel system that was installed 10 years ago with support from the Tern Foundation. The additional panels will provide the system with enough clean energy to supply over 60% of the electricity demand for the property.

Matching funds were raised and will be used for a new roof to support the solar installation. My Generation Energy completed the installation this week.

“This visible solar installation in the center of town serves as a beacon, a shining example of the commitment of this organization and the larger community to environmental sustainability,” Janet Lesniak, executive director, wrote in a statement. “We are dedicated to being good stewards of this historic building; maintaining the beauty and history of the property and mitigating the effects of the growing climate crisis for future generations.”

Wellfleet Preservation Hall serves as a year-round hub for art, culture and community in the center of Wellfleet.
