Solar park of 100 MW starts construction in Arizona to benefit Intel – Renewables Now

September 25 (Renewables Now) – Electric utility Salt River Project (SRP) and renewable energy producer sPower on Thursday announced the start of construction of the 100-MW East Line Solar plant in Central Arizona.

The facility is being built in Pinal County from where it will support Intel Corporation’s (NASDAQ:INTC) Chandler Ocotillo Campus.

“For more than a decade, Intel has been one of the top voluntary corporate purchasers of green power, currently supplying our US and European facilities with 100% green power. Our goal is to achieve 100% renewable energy use across our global manufacturing operations by 2030 and projects like East Line Solar help make green power more accessible to all,” said Marty Sedler, Intel’s Director of Global Utilities and Infrastructure.

East Line Solar is expected to become operational in December 2020. It is estimated to generate USD 10 million (EUR 8.6m) in tax revenue over 25 years and create up to 350 construction jobs.

The project is part of SRP’s Sustainable Energy Offering for commercial customers. A total of 33 companies have now signed up to get 300 MW of solar power from Arizona-based plants under that programme.
