Soon enough, guests at EPCOT will be walking through the Xandar Gallery at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and getting launched backwards in space as they get into some interplanetary mischief with Rocket, Groot, and the whole Guardians gang. But before that, we need to start seeing some solar panels on the roof of the former Universe of Energy building, and thankfully, the solar mounts are still coming along.
We recently saw construction resume at the site after the COVID-19 shutdown. Contractors were seen fully clad in face masks as they continued laying out the infrastructure of the solar panel-clad roof.
So far, most of the roof is complete, with just additional rows of mounts needed in the back end. Once the mounts are finished, the solar panels can be installed, but due to the delicate nature of the panels, this may be one of the last things we see installed.
As we can see from the bright orange side panels of the building currently, it’s likely that plans for the exterior aesthetic of the pavilion may have changed since these early concept art renderings, however the concept art above gives us a better look at how the solar panels will look once completed.
This new Guardians coaster is set to open in EPCOT sometime in 2021, with construction unimpacted by recent project cancellations or budget cuts. Are you looking forward to experiencing Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT? Let us know in the comments!
