ANN ARBOR, MI — Homewood Suites anticipates to open a new Ann Arbor hotel by the end of the year.
The Hilton-owned brand is opening the hotel in five-story building at 2457 S State St. in Ann Arbor which is currently under construction but will have 107 suites fully equipped with kitchens.
Amenities include an indoor pool, vegetated roof, outdoor patio with fire pits, 26 surface level and 81 underground parking spaces, and rooftop solar panels to power electric vehicle charging stations, said Jonathan Azer, project developer with Stellar Hospitality A2.
Ann Arbor approved the multi-million dollar project in 2018, which is expected to be “the first new generation design in the country” for the company, Azer said.
“They have prototypes, just like you have a make and model of a car. It’s literally a brand new layout, brand new design. It’s a fresh look and something very unique that’s going to be very fitting for the city,” Azer said, adding the hotel will be up and running by the “end of this year.”
Framing for the hotel is expected to be completed this week, Azer said.
The hotel industry has experienced losses during the coronavirus pandemic and state-ordered closures of non-essential services.
“Things have been very slowly picking up. We’re not breaking even. We’re not making the basic payments but we have a lot of faith that things are getting better,” Azer said. “We’re really excited to be In this wonderful community. We put this big investment in the city for a reason. We’re hoping that … things get better.”
A storm water system would also be provided on the site. Other benefits include bicycle parking inside and outside the hotel, complimentary breakfast, as well as an evening social Monday to Thursday, and providing employees with free passes to use Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority buses.
