HILLSBOROUGH – The township planning board will hear a proposal next month to install 1,100 solar panels next to the Comcast office on Amwell Road.
SunPower Corp. is proposing to install the panels to the west of the building on an L-shaped 5.58-acre lot.
The hearing, to be held virtually, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Nov. 5.
The panels are planned for a 1.59-acre portion of the property where satellite dishes are now located. The dishes will be removed.
The panels will provide solar-generated power to the Comcast building plus an electric car charging station. A 6-foot chain-link fence would surround the solar panels.
The plan calls for the removal of 38 trees to make room for the panels, but SunPower proposes to plant 107 trees.
ELECTION ’20:Â Hillsborough Democrats aim for township committee control
No changes are proposed for the Comcast building. No new lighting or signs are proposed.
A design waiver is required because the solar array is proposed to be 42 feet from the property line, when 50 feet is required.
The property, on the north side of Amwell Road east of Willow Road, is in the township’s corporate development zone.
