Free hands-on solar design workshop offered – Elbert County News

Homeowers interested in information about solar panel systems for their home, ranch or farm are invited to a hands-on workshop at the Elizabeth Library.

“We’ll teach a short class about the basics of residential solar, take questions from the floor and if any attendee wants it, we will design a rooftop or ground-mount system on site, add batteries to the mix, look at several finance options and generally just create a custom designs that easily beats the utility company costs,” EJ Thornton, lead solar designer, said in a news release.

The right person to attend this class is any homeowner who is now or ever has been curious about the role solar power can play on their property, the release states.

“It just takes seeing one electric bill to understand the current usage for the property — and from that, we can use software to design a system specific for that household,” Thornton said in the release.

IREA is upgrading to new smart meters across their system. New banking partners have gotten into the financing game, manufacturers have released panels with new features that far exceed old panels, reducing degradation, etc.

The workshop is from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Elizabeth Library, 651 Beverly St. The first 25 households that present their power bills will receive a energy-optimizing thank you gift. There is no charge for the class or the solar designs created for homeowners at the class.
