I was recently denied a permit to install a solar system in the Village.
I have lived in the Village and installed solar statewide for more than 10 years. The expanded Restrictive Covenants adopted last year are now 117 pages of restrictions and no longer allow solar panels on roof plains facing a street.
A few years ago when Cooper engineers controlled the ACC, solar was permitted on any roof surface with modest cosmetic restrictions.
While presenting before the ACC last week I tried to make several arguments but I was continuously interrupted and challenged at every turn by the committee chair John Froning. When I handed out pictures of other solar arrays visible from the street in the Village, John tossed them aside and proclaimed all my solar installs in the Village were unpermitted.
I begged to differ and said I have every permit to prove otherwise! He declared they were all invalid because they never came before his committee. People in the room who knew better sat silent while pompous John berated and accused me of illegally installing solar in the Village.
I call for a referendum on solar for the Village. I am asking every board candidate to state their position on solar. I call for this new restriction to be removed from the Covenants. I call for the removal of John Froning as head of the ACC for his narrow mind and arrogant claim to have the power to retroactively invalidate permits. I am calling on every Villager to speak out. Do you want our community to be attractive to younger solar-savvy generations or do you want old biased minds deciding our fate?
